anti-communist movements

Anti-communism was an important part of political life in South Vietnam. All regimes in South Vietnam were strongly anti-communist, as were many parts of civil society. Opposition to communism was particularly strong among Catholics as well as in the South Vietnamese military, two of the principal political forces in the Republic of Vietnam. Many parts of the rural population also became increasingly anti-communist as the military and political presence of North Vietnam and the National Liberation Front grew in rural areas.
