The label on the photograph reads, "Than Nong or 'miracle' rice, high-yield hybrid strains developed in the Philippines, should make South Vietnam self-sufficient in rice from 1972 on. This Than Nong plot n the Mekong Delta produces nearly seven metric tons of paddy per hectare. Local indigo rice averages two tons. (TCB-098 Photo One, September 1971.)"
